Adds 7.6.08

Things have definitely chilled out this week. While we have a few noise/hardcore/punk adds it’s mostly pretty folk music and pop, so rejoice if this is your thing. We have some potentially huge hits in the new and much anticipated Daedelus album as well as the first LP by a band called Alaska In Winter, which sounds like a more beat based Beirut. Noise/hard rock fans can look to KIT, Pumice, Ajilvsga, and Nicolas Tone for their kicks this week. Hopefully you are enjoying this blog and you DJs find it a helpful guide to new music. Anyways, here are the adds:

Adds 6.29.08

Hey Everyone:

Jack and I, the music directors of KCPR wanted a place to collect the brief reviews and assorted information we disburse to the DJs of KCPR. This is mostly limited to a brief summary of all the new music we add to the station. For those of you who don’t know, KCPR, like many college radio stations, picks the best music we can find every week. The music varies greatly but it is almost entirely independent, with little exception. We are still toying around with exactly how we will use this space and for now it will just have the quasi-reviews we mentioned. In the future we may choose to expand it to more with articles from different members of KCPR about anything they want. Keep checking back for (at least) weekly updates and other goodies such as podcasts(!!!!!) of our new releases show every week!

1. Orange – In The Midst Of Chaos (De Stijl)

Awesome free jazz album brought to you by the same people who put out the smegma / wolfeyes split. No myspace for the band but you can hear a song “and then she appeared” at their label’s myspace at: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=84367059

2. Skip James – 1931 (Mississippi)

Awesome Mississippi Records release featuring 1931 recordings by delta blues legend Skip James. Really awesome stuff, I don’t have a link to hear these specific records, but similar ones can be heard here: http://www.myspace.com/warlor

3. Eat Skull – Sick To Death (Silt Breeze)

Totally rad damaged punk through a tin can. Featuring former members of another add this week, the hospitals. Similar to other siltbreeze bands like Times New Viking. Check them out here: http://www.myspace.com/eatskull

4. Sleepwalkers Local – Better Living Through Science (Stunned)

Super chilled out folk/electronic music from not not fun’s sister label. If you are in LA this summer you can probably catch this dude at the echo curio. Some self proclaimed influences include Low and the Velvet Underground. http://www.myspace.com/sleepwalkerslocal

5. Totally Dad (Thor’s Rubber Hammer)

Punk rock damaged and shredded to more or less a bunch of noise. Super original, abrasive, yet catchy, really worth a listen.
http://www.myspace.com/totallydad

6. A.H. Kraken – s/t (In The Red)

Some straight up rock and roll. If you liked the Factums, King Brother, or any loud rock/punk type music, you will love these French dudes.
http://www.myspace.com/ahkraken

7. Hospitals – Hairdryer Peace (S/R)

The Hospitals, formerly on Load Records, bring the jams again, alternating between noise and garage rock dubbed over noise, this is one of the best adds this week. http://www.myspace.com/hospitals

8. Long Legged Woman – Newtown Nights (Thor’s Rubber Hammer)

Considerably lighter than the other Thor’s releases this week. Sounds sort of like drugged out and slowed down garage rock, lots of reverb and totally awesome. Some slower, almost My Bloody Valentine moments too.
http://www.myspace.com/longleggedwoman

9. Fabulous Diamonds – s/t (Siltbreeze)

Debut LP from Young Marbel Giant sound alikes. I think you guys will really like this one, but I can’t really tell you why. I want to say it sounds like No Age, but it doesn’t, just check out their myspace:
http://www.myspace.com/fabulousdiamonds

10. Terminals – Touch (Last Visible Dog)

Outragously awesome reissue of a 1992 release by The Terminals. I can’t recommend this enough, definitely one of the best releases this week. No myspace, last.fm is the best I could do http://www.last.fm/music/The+Terminals

11. Psychedelic Horseshit – Magic Flowers Droned (Silt Breeze)

If you like Times New Viking, you will love this. Enough Said
http://www.myspace.com/psychedelichorseshit

Some really intresting rock and roll that sort of reminds me of Devo. Well, if you like devo, you will probably like this at least.
http://www.myspace.com/theworldisadrag

13. Twink – A Very Fine Adventure (Twink Tones)

Super cute pop music made with electronics and toy pianos. Similar to lullatone. http://www.myspace.com/twinkmusic

14. Freiband & Machinefabriek (Low-Point)

Super weird ambient album. Consists of three tracks, the first being a really pretty and slow guitar song and the next two are sort of remixes where they treat and retreat the song to completely bastardize and change it, both very interesting and awesome, I recommend track #3. No, myspace, sorry.

15. King Khan and the Shrines (Vice)

More or less the new black lips. Very catchy garage rock that knows where it came from and knows how to get down. http://www.myspace.com/kingkhantheshrines

16. Vibert /Simmonds (Rephlex)

Awesome and thoughtful electronic music similar to pole and other dues like that. If you like chill and intresting house music, this is for you. Couldn’t find a myspace, here is the label’s site http://www.rephlex.com/

17. Aufgehoben (Holy Mountain)

Crazy holy mountain release. Very dark and brooding, more on the ambient side. Can’t find a myspace, sorry! But Please check it out, holy mountain! Moves between ambient and noise!

18. Takahirokido (Plop)

Pretty quiet music. The type of music you guys make fun of us for adding. But really good! Electronic meets classical
